The wardrobe

You do not need five.

Five editions exist because the archive has five. That is a record, not a shopping list. Most people are served by one. A few are served by two. Everything past that is collecting, which is a different pleasure and an honest one, but it should be called by its name.

One

A.003 — Quiet Hour

If you own one thing from this house, own this. The record says it is worn for “work, sleep, and the whole ordinary day between them”, it lasts ten to twelve hours, and its trail stays close — still on a coat collar in the morning, never across a room. In heat it is the steadiest of the five: sandalwood does not spike the way a floral does.

A single bottle has to survive a working day in a city that is hot for eight months of the year, and be forgivable in a lift. This is the only one of the five that does both without asking anything of you.

Two

Add A.002 — After the Silence

The second bottle should not be a variation on the first. It should be the thing the first cannot do. A.003 is composed for 13:00 and stays close; A.002 is composed for 23:30, lasts twelve hours or more, and reaches the far side of a room. One is for being present. The other is for being remembered.

Two bottles chosen this way cover a year without overlapping once. Owning a third is no longer about coverage.

Three, if where you live decides it

The third bottle is a climate argument rather than an occasion one, and it splits two ways.

If your year is humid — a coast, a monsoon, a long wet season — take A.001, Before the Rain. It is built on mitti, and the wet-earth note reads truer in humidity than in dry heat. It is the only one of the five that is improved by the weather most people dress around.

If your year is hot and your evenings are the point — take A.005, Night Bloom. White florals amplify in humidity and this is three of them, so it needs less of itself in June than in December. It is the loudest thing here and it knows it.

A wardrobe is not a collection. One is chosen against your days; the other against the archive.

Five

Owning all five is not coverage — two bottles already did that. It is an interest in the record itself: in five materials, five origins, and the differences between them held in one place. That is a real reason and we would rather say so than pretend you need them.

If that is what you are after, the discovery set is still the way in. Wear all five for a day each before owning any of them; hour six is the part we compose for and the part a shop counter cannot show you.
